John Moore.

John Moore is moving back to Minneapolis! Laura introduced me to John Moore, but I never really got to know him until recently. I knew a lot about him though, because Laura would tell me stories. My favorite john moore story/attribute is his novel dance: The john Moore. It's a pretty fun dance. laura and i taught all of our friends at macalester how to do it. One time we did the john moore together at first ave before laura moved to korea when i was too scared to dance with anyone else. This weekend I got to do the john moore dance with john moore. I felt sooo honored. Here is a picture of John Moore dancing. He isn't doing the John Moore in this one, but i bet he did it at some point that evening.

gchatttting

I was looking through my old gchat conversations and found some from last year when laura was at macalester with me. it makes me really sad when i think about how we just got to hang out allll the time! we would have study parties together, and i would spend the night at her house and then go to class in the morning. Here is one of our chats from a night that we had a study party!

Watermelon Crawl

when i was in sd over spring break i heard country music for the first time in a really long time. the last time i heard any was probably driving with laura. we loved to listen to country music when we drove to south dakota together. laura's favorite song is Watermelon Crawl. it's really great, and when i heard it on the radio, i was sooo excited. you should all listen to it, and if you have time you can even learn the line dance from youtube videos. here is a link to a pretty good video of the song. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IW-1Pha0KoE&feature=related

i miss you laura
ENJOY!!

Sup. so it's been a while since i've blogged, and i feel bad about it because i've been thinking of laura a lot lately. i'm going to try to post more often, but i've been being kind of lazy...

i'm in yankton this week. I always think of laura when i'm in yankton, because we hang out all the time when we are home. i've been pretty bored without her though. i haven't really left my house since i got home...i went to the dentist, the post office, and cork n' bottle, but that's about it. I'm going to go visit laura's family tomorrow, but it wont' be the same without her there.

In other news, I was surfing the interweb this afternoon, and I came across a picture of a crazy TV Tower which i found out was in Prague...it's called the Žižkov Television Tower. it's basically like three giant cylinders with three different like room areas that are in the interstices of the cylinders. the best part of Žižkov TV Tower are the little crawling baby sculptures on the towers! it looks so crazy! When I saw it, I thought of Laura because she visited Prague when she was on study abroad. I wonder if she saw this crazy tower. And maybe "flat jamila" saw it too!(when Laura was in Prague she drew a picture of me and took it around the city with her) Anyway, i'll post a picture of "flat jamila" and laura in prague and a picture of the TV Tower!

peace, love, empathy,
jamila

study break

hello laura missing community!
So i'm on my third all nighter of the semester, and I'm pretty bummed about it. I have company though. Eric, Ji Soo, Maddie, Andy, and Mandy are here. It's a typical kirk basement lab crew. I just wrote 120 words so it's time for a break. the all-nighter is going okay, but i need to get more productive...i'm not quite in the zone yet. Naturally, I'm listening to dave radio while i work; it's playing radiohead right now, and I also stopped at super america to get Jim Beam barbecue flavored sunflower seeds. me and laura used to eat sooo many Jim Beam barbecue sunflower seeds when we stayed up all night. Laura is really good at eating sunflower seeds...she's super fast...probably the fastest sunflower seed eater i know...except maybe my sister, but it's a tough call. anyway, i was just you thinking about laura, and i wanted to post. i think about laura a lot when i stay up all night. last time i stayed up all night i posted on my blog 3 times!! beh. i miss laura.
anyway, this is a picture of Jim Beam Barbeque Sunflower Seeds...note, they are soaked in genuine beam whiskey, and I didn't get carded when i bought them!

Today when I looked at the temperature and it said 45 degrees I got really excited not only because 45 degrees is a comfortable temperature, but also because 45 is one of my favorite numbers. It hasn't always been one of my favorite numbers, but when I used to watch TV with Laura we would laugh about KSTC-TV, Channel 45's motto thing which is basically whisper-singing "forty-five" it's really fast and totally hilarious. ever since the time when I first heard this motto, I get really excited when I see or hear the number 45 and generally i whisper sing "forty-five," and it makes me really happy. 45 comes up a lot more than one would think... speed limits, guns, temperatures, times, how old people are...it's some crazy stuff. My dad recently turned 46, but the whole time he was 45 was hilarious! Anyway, if laura were here we would have sung the motto together when I saw the temperature. I'm having really mixed emotions toward 45 right now...it makes me happy, but it also makes me sad that laura isn't here...it's tough because i do really enjoy that motto...anyway, I tried to find a video of the 45 song to post, but I couldn't find one so instead you can visit some of my favorite websites about 45.

homesick

so today i'm feeling pretty homesick, and when i'm homesick i think of all the great times i had in yankton with laura. we used to hang out at our houses which were really close to each other and go to the fry'n pan. we also loved to do other things like make dinner, watch tv with laura's parents, plan adventures, and hang out in my basement. on this map pink square number one is my house, and pink square number two is laura's house. we lived so close to each other! when i was a sprout i would sneak out and walk to laura's all the time! if you follow the yellow line, that's the path i would take. then we would go to the fry'n pan (pink box number 3) the green line is the path we would follow to get there. I miss laura and how close she used to be to me!!!

Rosssss

Sup.
so i've haven't posted in a while because i've been pretty sick. When i'm sick i miss laura like crazy because she would take care of me. Last semester when I almost died it was laura who took me to the ER... I don't have that anymore so i might go home for the weekend. Anyway. I wanted to post a picture of Ross in a basement because last time i talked to laura she told me that she missed ross and basements. well laura, i miss you, but here is a picture for you!
